Course

Our Course

Bright Country Golf Club's 18-hole, par 72 course is one of the most scenic and enjoyable tests of golf in regional Victoria. Set on 50 hectares of valley floor beside the Ovens River, with the Alps rising in every direction, it is a course that rewards good golf and forgives the occasional lapse with a view that makes you glad you came.

The Layout

The course is flat to gently undulating, following the natural contours of the valley floor. It is a layout that suits golfers of every level, from the competitive single-figure player to the weekend social golfer playing their first round in the High Country. Fairways are generous enough to encourage attacking play but the course has enough character and variety to keep things interesting from the first tee to the 18th green.

At par 72, the course offers a full and satisfying test across 18 holes. The Ovens River comes into play on several holes, providing both a visual highlight and a genuine challenge for those who stray offline. Water features, well-positioned bunkering and the occasional tree-lined corridor ensure that course management matters as much as ball striking.

Conditions and Presentation

The course is maintained to a high standard year-round by our grounds team under the direction of Grounds Superintendent Cameron Wickes. Fairways are native couch grass, with bent grass greens and tees kept firm and true across all seasons.

The High Country climate means the course plays differently throughout the year. Spring and summer bring lush conditions and long evenings. Autumn delivers the region's famous colour, with the surrounding hills turning gold and red as you play. Winter rounds have their own appeal, with crisp mornings, clear air and the mountains at their most dramatic.

Course Development

The current course was designed by Tony Cashmore and has been progressively refined and improved since it opened in 1989. Ongoing development is guided by the Tony Cashmore Course Development Plan, which provides a long-term framework for enhancement works across the layout. The club invests regularly in the course and its surrounds, with the aim of offering an experience that improves with every visit.

Visiting the Course

The course is open seven days a week to members and visitors. Green fees apply for non-members and can be arranged through the pro shop on arrival. Tee time bookings are recommended, particularly on weekends and competition days.

Golf carts are available for hire, and cart storage is available on-site for members. The course is walkable and many members prefer to take in the surroundings on foot.

Coaching

Golf coaching is available at the club through Greg Allen. Whether you are new to the game or looking to sharpen a particular part of your play, coaching sessions can be arranged through the pro shop.

Come and Play

There are few better places to spend a day than on the banks of the Ovens River with a set of clubs and good company. We look forward to seeing you on the course.
